For Claude Code and Claude Desktop
Build software by talking to Claude Code
Smalt gives Claude Code ears and a voice. Say what you want, Claude works in your terminal, and Smalt shows each step and speaks the answer. On calls, the same connection lets Claude answer the questions people ask you, from your repo, your notes and your docs.
Free · Apple Silicon · macOS 14.4 or later
- Read auth/session.ts
- Grep "expiresAt"
- Run npm test -- login
Talk instead of typing
- Install Smalt and connect it to Claude, in one line:
It installs or updates the app (checking it's signed by us and notarized by Apple), then connects Claude Code and Claude Desktop if you have them. It asks one optional question: your email, for updates (Enter skips). Read the script. Already have Smalt? Settings → Voice Assistant → Connect Claude Code… does the same.curl -fsSL https://getsmalt.com/install.sh | bash - In your project, run
/smalt. - Say what you want. Claude works as usual; the pill shows each step as it runs and Smalt speaks the answer. Talk over it to cut in, on speakers too.
See what Claude is doing
The pill at the bottom of your screen shows the session as it happens: what you said, each file Claude reads and each command it runs, ticked off as it finishes, and its answer in words while you hear it. Click it for the whole conversation, and End on it when you're done. Commands and permissions stay in Claude Code's own window, where they are today.
On calls, Claude answers for you
Smalt streams your call's transcript to Claude over the same local connection. When someone asks you something, Claude looks in your repo, your notes and your docs, and the answer appears above the pill, right under their question. During a call Smalt never speaks; answers are text.
Dictate prompts too
Hold ⌥, describe the change, let go. The words land at the cursor in Terminal, Ghostty, VS Code, Xcode or anything else, and your clipboard is put back.
What stays on your Mac
- Your voice is recognized on your Mac and never saved or uploaded.
- Answers are spoken by a voice model on your Mac.
- Smalt talks to Claude over a local socket and runs no model of its own for this. Claude works as it always does, on your Claude plan.
