Talk instead of typing.

Hold ⌥, speak, let go: your words appear in whatever app you're typing in. And when a call starts, Smalt takes the notes. All of it happens on your Mac.

Hi Claire,

Dictation, anywhere

Mail, Slack, Notion, your code editor. Your clipboard is put back after every paste.

Meeting notes

You and the others, transcribed live. A summary, decisions and action items, saved as Markdown.

Stays on your Mac

Speech is transcribed on your Mac. Audio is never saved or uploaded. What stays, what goes online

Private by design

Smalt was built to never need a server. Your voice is turned into text by a speech model running on your Mac's Neural Engine, then thrown away.

Stays on your Mac

  • Your voice. Transcribed in memory as you speak. Audio is never recorded to disk and never uploaded.
  • Your words. Dictation goes straight into the app you're typing in; your clipboard is put back.
  • Your meetings. Notes are Markdown files in Documents → Smalt, only on your Mac. Summaries run on your Mac with Apple Intelligence (macOS 26).
  • Your calendar. Read on your Mac to name meetings; events never leave it.
  • Your license. Checked offline. No account, no sign-in.

The only times Smalt goes online

  • First launch: it downloads the speech model (about 480 MB) from Hugging Face. After that, dictation and meeting notes work offline.
  • Updates: it checks getsmalt.com for a new version. No personal data is sent.
  • Only if you turn it on: cloud summaries (for Macs without Apple Intelligence) send the meeting transcript to the provider you choose, with your own API key.

No analytics, no tracking, no ads. Crash reports are off unless you turn them on, and never contain audio or text.
