Smalt Help
Settings → General → All checks shows everything Smalt needs, checked again every second, each with its fix. Start there.
Dictation
| You see | Do this |
|---|---|
| Nothing gets pasted | Turn Smalt on in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility. If it's already on, turn it off and on again. |
| Settings says "relaunch" | Smalt was updated while running: quit and open it again. |
| The words appear above the pill instead | The cursor was in a password field or no text field was focused. Click where the text goes and press ⌃⌥V, or Copy them. |
| Some words come out wrong | Try Parakeet Ultra in Settings → Models, and speak a little closer to the mic. |
| The key does something else | Pick another key in Settings → Shortcuts. |
Meeting notes

| Only "Me" lines, no "Others" | Allow system audio under Settings → General → All checks, and make sure the call plays through this Mac. |
| No summary | Summaries on this Mac need macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence. Otherwise set Settings → Cloud → Meeting summaries to Cloud, with a cloud model and its key. |
| A line says its language isn't on this Mac | Click Get on that language in Settings → Meetings → Translation. |
| No calendar offers | Turn them on in Settings → Meetings, and allow calendar access. |
Assistant and live answers
| You see | Do this |

| No answers at all | Check Settings → Meetings → Live answers isn't Off, and notes are running. |
| The ask key does nothing | Turn on Settings → Voice Assistant. |
| "Run /smalt in Claude Code, or add a cloud key in Cloud" | Who answers you is Claude Code and no /smalt session is on: run /smalt, or add a cloud model key in Settings → Cloud. |
| "Add your … key" | Paste the key in Settings → Cloud, then Check Keys. |
| "… refused the key" | The key is wrong, revoked, or the account has no credit: make a new one. |
| A question was missed | Open Log: if it says Skipped, the question wasn't spotted. Rephrase, or try another model. |
| "Nothing found in the folders" | Add the folder that holds the answer under Looks in. |
| Answers are slow | Open Log shows which step takes the time. A faster model (Haiku, Luna) helps most. |
| Claude's steps don't show on the pill | Click Connect Claude Code… again in Settings → Voice Assistant: it reinstalls the hook. Claude Desktop shows no steps. |
/smalt is refused | Another Claude session is talking with Smalt. Say "that's all" there, click End on the pill, or wait 90 seconds. |
| Smalt keeps talking when you speak | Settings → Voice Assistant → Cut in when I talk: pick Instantly. |
Claude shows smalt disconnected | Make sure Smalt is running, then reconnect: /mcp in Claude Code, or restart Claude Desktop. |
